Storm Malik Impact
Updates
We are pleased to see the back of Storms Malik and Corrie now. All of our major mast sites are now back on mains power although we do still have a couple of smaller relays that are still offline and we are investigating whether this is power or damage-related.
The Met Office have issued a Yellow weather warning for Tuesday morning, however given the predicted wind speed we are not anticipating any further risk to our network from these winds.
We are continuing to monitor our network following Storm Malik, however we are pleased to say that a large number of relays have had power restored which has restored service to customers.
Due to the extended outages, our masts at Balnellan and Lochliesk serving the Boharm and Aberlour areas are currently offline as their battery backups have been exhausted and our generators are currently deployed on other sites.
Our Brown Muir mast which feeds most of our network is also running on battery power in tandem with a generator, however due to the need for refuelling there may be a risk of a short outage this afternoon depending on when engineers can safely get to the mast to refuel the generator.
With Storm Corrie expected to hit from around 6pm there will be the chance of further outages across our relay network over the next 24 hours and again we will monitor these and attend to any that require our attention as soon as it is safe to do so.
We seem to be through the worst of the storm for now, although with Storm Corrie forecast for overnight on Sunday we can’t be complacent.
Our engineers have resolved as many damage-related issues as we safely can today and we will be attending to the remaining couple of issues as soon as we are able to. In the meantime we are still showing a reasonable number of relay sites offline due to SSEN power outages, most of which are currently scheduled for restoration by 12noon tomorrow (Sunday).
We will provide further updates tomorrow as information becomes available.
We are continuing to monitor our network due to Storm Malik causing issues. A good number of our smaller relays are offline due to power outages and the current estimate for restoration is Sunday mid-day although we do expect that to slip for a proportion of properties as SSEN continue to assess the damage to the power network.
Our own engineers are also assessing the damage to our equipment due to the wind and while there is minimal, it may take time for the conditions to allow safe access to it for repairs.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Storm Malik has now reached us and has impacted certain areas of our coverage hard, knocking out mains power to a number of areas. All of our core mast sites are currently online, with our Brown Muir site running on battery backup.
Due to the power outages some of our smaller relay sites are offline and will remain so until SSEN can repair any network damage and restore power.
We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
